MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan field hockey team dropped its Mid-American Conference opener to Longwood,3-0, on Saturday at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
Â
The Chippewas slipped to 1-7. Longwood won its fourth consecutive game in improving to 5-1.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lancers did all the scoring in the first half, breaking through just 4 minutes and 2 seconds after the opening faceoff. The Lancers finished with a 19-4 edge in shots.
Â
"It was a tough one because we didn't follow the game plan from the start," CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said. "We let a goal go in very quickly after we got up in their attacking zone first and our corner just wasn't as fast, which is hard because we are attacking first, which is so great, and we let them come down. It was a great goal, but it shouldn't have happened.
Â
"I think we did better in the second half, but we still didn't follow the game plan. That is our biggest thing right now."
Â
CMU OFFENSE
Alli Huddleson, Samantha Glapinski, Cara Satre and Kayla McClure each recorded a shot for the Chippewas.
Â
EBERSOLE IN GOAL
After playing the entire second half against Stanford last Sunday, junior Abigail Ebersole made her first start of the season in goal for the Chippewas. She made five saves.
Â
"She stayed strong and stayed loud in there so she did a really good job and kept us in this game," Ostoich said.
Â
NEXT
The Chippewas to play a nonconference game at Michigan on Sunday (2 p.m.). The Wolverines (4-3) have won three consecutive games.
