ANN ARBOR -- The Central Michigan field hockey team dropped a 9-0 decision to Michigan on Sunday at the Wolverines' Phyllis Ocker Field.
The Chippewas are 1-8. Michigan, which has won four straight games, is 5-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emma Way broke the ice with a goal near the 10-minute mark. The Wolverines, who collected 27 shots, led 6-0 at halftime.
"The first 20 minutes of the game looked like there was some really solid defense," CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said. "But the problem was the minute we let up, they were scoring.
"They're a really good team, but it was nice to see us respond in those first 20 minutes. But then it was a breakdown, someone got tired and let up and then all of a sudden that turned into a goal. It was improvement on our defensive side, but then there's obviously some room where we need to grow and just realizing that we can't let up. We have got to be able to play 35 minutes hard."
IN GOAL
Junior Abigail Ebersole made her second consecutive start in goal for the Chippewas. She made 11 saves and earned high praise from Ostoich.
"She had an absolutely phenomenal game and I really am proud of the way she played today," Ostoich said.
