MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Malik Fountain was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week for football after his performance on Saturday in a 24-16 loss at Northern Illinois.

Fountain, a senior from Chicago, made a career-high 18 tackles including a sack that went for loss of 13 yards. Eight of Fountain's tackles were solo stops.

Fountain leads the Chippewas with 35 tackles. CMU (0-3) plays host to Maine (2-0) in a nonconference game on Saturday, Sept. 22 (3 p.m.).
