Chippewas celebrate Senior Day on Friday
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan field hockey team will play two nonconference games this weekend against Big Ten opponents.
The Chippewas will first play host to Indiana on Friday (3 p.m.) at Cristy Freese Field, and then will travel to East Lansing on Sunday (2 p.m.) to do battle with Michigan State.
Tough Challenges
CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said the two games present a great opportunity for her team to test its progress against a high level of competition.
"Definitely a lot of challenges, but I think it's just a great opportunity to see how far we've come throughout the season," Ostoich said. "We played Big Ten teams in the beginning of the season and struggled quite a bit, but I think we've grown a lot since the beginning of the season. It'll be a great opportunity to measure ourselves."
A Full 60
The Chippewas are coming off one of their best games of the season in which they were narrowly defeated by Mid-American Conference leader Kent State, 3-2.
Ostoich said she wants to see her team maintain that level of play for a full 60 minutes.
"We put together a really good 60 minutes against Kent State, but still didn't come up with that 'W,'" Ostoich said. "We're trying to work on a couple of other things that we need to fix to really ensure that the next time we put together a full 60 minutes, we're walking away with that 'W.'"
Senior Day
The Chippewas will celebrate Senior Day on Friday prior to the game with Indiana. CMU will honor four seniors, Jasmine Banks, Georgina Minta, Sarah Mesko and Abigail Ebersole, during the ceremony.
MAC Tournament on the Horizon
CMU will play one more conference game – at Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 2 -- before turning its attention to the MAC Tournament.
"I want to see hard work from start to finish, I want to see us play a full game, and really play for each other," Ostoich said.
