CMU Soccer Welcomes Eastern In Regular-Season Finale

Thursday's game carries major MAC Tournament ramifications
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan soccer team will play its regular-season finale on Thursday, Oct 31 (3 p.m.) when it entertains Eastern Michigan in a Mid-American Conference game the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex

Where They Stand
CMU is 7-4-4, 4-4-2 MAC after going 0-1-1 last weekend. The Chippewas played Buffalo to a scoreless tie and then fell to Akron, 1-0.

CMU has 14 points in the MAC standings and sits at seventh place.

EMU is 5-11-2, 4-6. The Eagles lost to Akron, 3-2, and defeated Buffalo, 2-1, last weekend. The Eagles are tied with Toledo for eighth place in the conference standings with 12 points.

"They're a good team whose record doesn't show their overall ability," CMU coach Jeremy Groves said. "They have some really dynamic attacking players who are dangerous. This is going to be a tough match for us. Both of us are playing for their season."

MAC Tournament
The top eight teams in the standings receive bids to the league tournament, which begins on Sunday, Nov. 3. The top four teams in the final standings will host the teams finishing fifth-eighth in a 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, 4 vs. 5 format.

The four Sunday winners advance to the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 8. The championship game is set for Sunday, Nov. 10. The semifinals and final are scheduled to be played at the site of the highest-remaining seed after Sunday's quarterfinal games.

The Chippewas could grab a top-four seed for the tournament should they beat Eastern Michigan and other teams ahead of CMU in the standings lose. There are any number of scenarios as all 12 MAC team will be in action on Thursday afternoon, jockeying for tournament seedings.

Only 12th-place Northern Illinois has been eliminated from tournament contention.

Bowling Green is in first place with 27 points, followed by Ball State (24). Ohio, Buffalo, Akron and Western Michigan are tied for third (16).
