Field Hockey Plays Regular-Season Finale At Miami

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan field hockey team will look to get its first Mid-American Conference victory in its final game of the regular season on Saturday when the Chippewas go to Miami (Ohio). The game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
Getting a MAC Win
The Chippewas are 2-15, 0-5 MAC. The RedHawks are 10-7, 4-1. Both will partake in the MAC Tournament, which begins on Nov. 6.
CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said that a conference win before the tournament would help her team's confidence immensely.
"That would be huge," she said. "I think this is going to be a tough game, they're obviously a very good opponent, but we've put up some good games against some good opponents. That's what I'm hoping to see this weekend.
"We've got to put it all out there. We've got to give everything we have because the games are limited now and after this it's you win, or you're done."
Keys to a Win
The Chippewas have kept their recent games close behind resilient defense, yet the CMU offense has struggled as of late. Ostoich said the offense will need to show out for the Chippewas to win on Saturday.
"We have to value the ball," said Ostoich. "I think, especially in our last two games, there's just moments where we kind of just threw the ball away instead of just taking our time. We went for the fastbreak, which is great, but both times we did that, we ended up losing it. We've got to value the ball especially when it's getting crazy."
The RedHawks
Miami, which enters Saturday's game on a three-game win streak, needs a win in order to keep alive its MAC title hopes. The RedHawks trail first-place Kent State by one game. The Golden Flashes are 5-0 in league play and entertain Longwood in their regular-season finale on Saturday. If Kent wins that game, it captures the conference title.
Numbers
Miami's Leonor Berlie leads the MAC in scoring (11 goals) and points (26). CMU goalkeeper Abigail Ebersole leads the MAC in saves per game (9.13).
