MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The No. 8-seeded Central Michigan soccer team will travel to Bowling Green for the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament against regular-season champion and No. 1 seed Bowling Green on Sunday, Nov. 3 (1 p.m.).
Â
These teams played on Oct. 10. Bowling Green defeated the Chippewas, 3-2, in double overtime. Bowling Green scored with 35 seconds to play in regulation to tie the game, 2-2, and sent it to extra time. The Falcons scored the game-winner with under a minute to play.
Â
"We were 35 seconds away from winning the game," first-year CMU coach Jeremy Groves said. "I think we take some belief into the game knowing that we can compete.
Â
"Like I've said all along, this team, when we perform, we can compete against anybody. I think that's the thing, that's the frustration of the past couple of weeks. If we perform like we can, to our potential, we can beat anybody."
Â
Tournament Format
The MAC tournament is comprised of the top eight teams in the standings. The top four seeds host those seeded fifth-eighth in a 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, and so on format. All games are scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
Â
After Sunday's games, the highest remaining seed will host the semifinals and the championship game. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 8, and the championship game is set for Sunday, Nov. 10.
Â
The winner of the MAC Tournament earns a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Â
Bowling Green is the defending MAC regular-season and tournament champion.
