Williams Punches Ticket to Indoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS —The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced Tuesday evening the participants who will compete in the 2019 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Central Michigan junior Nadia Williams will be heading to the championship meet as an automatic qualifier in the women's long jump.

Williams' season-best 6.41 meters (21 feet, 1/2 inch ) was a program record which she recorded at the Chippewas' Jack Skoog Open on Jan.11. Her leap ranks No.4 in the nation. The top 16 athletes in each event earn bids to the Championships.

Williams, a native of The Mount Horeb, Wis., placed first over the weekend in the long jump at the Mid-American Conference Championships, helping the CMU women to their first indoor league title since 2004.

The NCAA Championships, hosted by the Alabama Birmingham, are scheduled for March 8-9 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
