Howell tosses 3-hitter in 5-0 victory over Holy Cross
CLEARWATER, Fla. – Sophomore Samantha Howell tossed a complete-game three-hitter on Sunday as the Central Michigan softball team closed its Spring Break trip with a 5-0 victory over Holy Cross.
The Chippewas finished 5-8 in Florida and are 9-14 on the season. They are scheduled to play at Valparaiso in a nonconference doubleheader on Wednesday, March 20.
Howell (3-3) struck out four and did not walk a batter.
CMU collected seven hits, including a double by Samantha Mills, and took advantage of three Holy Cross errors.
The Chippewas got RBI singles from Shannon Stein and from Howell in building a 2-0 lead through five innings.
CMU used singles by Tala Dean and Kaila Fulker, a sacrifice bunt, a passed ball, a walk, and two Holy Cross errors in scoring three insurance runs in the sixth inning.
