Lacrosse Hangs Tough At Duquesne

Late surge by Dukes the difference CMU loss
PITTSBURGH – Duquesne finished with a 2-to-1 advantage in shots on Friday in handing Central Michigan a 24-18 nonconference lacrosse loss at the Dukes' Rooney Field.
CMU (2-5) finished with 23 shots to the Dukes' 56, yet still managed to hang in well into the second half. Duquesne is 5-1.
"We caved under pressure," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "Offensive production needs to be matched with valuing the ball on the clear, limiting second chances, and playing as a unit. Defensively our one-on-one defense was the most inconsistent I've ever seen it. The weakness was exposed even more because we weren't sliding to stop drives."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite the wide discrepancy in shots, the Chippewas hung in and were within one goal, 18-17, with 10 minutes to play.
Duquesne scored six of the game's final seven goals to pull away. The Dukes finished with a 44-22 advantage in shots on goal.
LEADERS
Jocelyne Lemay scored five goals and added two assists to lead CMU. She extended her streak to five consecutive games with three or more goals.
Emma Hamilton and Anna Schoonover added three goals each. It was the first hat trick of the season for both Chippewas.
Dominique Hamman started the game in goal for CMU. She made two saves and surrendered seven goals in 15 minutes. Hope Murray relieved Hamman and played the remainder of the game in goal, making a program-record 18 saves. She allowed 17 goals in 44 minutes.
NEXT
The Chippewas will return home to play a nonconference game with Marquette on Thursday, March 21 (2 p.m.) at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
