Brown solid on the mound in 13-1 victory
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Central Michigan used a nine-run fourth inning and six solid innings on the mound from Cameron Brown in downing Mount St. Mary's, 13-1, on Friday in a nonconference baseball game.
The Chippewas (11-3) outhit the Mountaineers, 17-7, giving Brown (4-0) plenty of support.
"Cameron Brown did a very good job of attacking the strike zone and letting us settle in offensively," CMU coach Jordan Bischel said. "He executed pitches very well tonight. It was great to see our offense put together a big inning."
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chippewas got an RBI double from Griffin Lockwood-Powell and RBI singles from Jacob Crum, Jason Sullivan and Evan Kratt in building a 4-1 lead after three innings.
CMU then sent 12 men to the plate, scoring nine runs on eight hits in blowing open the game.
AT THE PLATE
Zavier Warren, Zach Heeke and Lockwood-Powell finished with three hits each. Gaoshua Williams and Lockwood-Powell drove in three runs apiece.
Six of the Chippewas' hits went for extra bases.
ON THE MOUND
Brown, a junior right-hander, allowed one run on six hits, while walking two and striking out three over six innings.
"As is typical, (Brown) pounded the strike zone and let his defense play behind him," Bischel said.
Garrett Navarra, Brandon Reed and Ryan Palmblad each pitched one inning in relief. They combined to strike out six, walk two and surrender just one hit.
BIG BATS
It was the Chippewas' fourth-consecutive victory. They have outscored their opponents, 52-10, over that stretch.
