Chippewas tied for 6th in 10-team field
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Jami Laude shot a 3-over-par 75 on Saturday to lead the Central Michigan golf team at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational at Stone Ridge Golf Club.
Laude, who is among a group tied for eighth in the 63-player field, led CMU to a 310 team score and a tie for sixth in the 10-team event.
Laude's round included one birdie and four bogeys along with 13 pars, which tied her for the fifth most in the field. Laude, a sophomore, shot 73 last season in the same event on the same course and finished with a 155 total to tie for 21st in a 99-player field.
"Jami has had some previous success at this golf course and played very well again from tee to green," CMU coach Jim Earle said.
The 22-over 310 ties for CMU's lowest 18-hole team score of the spring season. The Chippewas are tied with Mid-American Conference rival Western Michigan in sixth place, and are just five shots behind another league rival, Eastern Michigan, which shot 305 on Saturday and stands in third place.
Chippewa players made a combined 58 pars in the round, tying for the second most on the day.
"It was nice to see the team hit a lot of quality shots today," Earle said. "Besides a few big numbers on holes 13 and 16, we had a very solid round."
Oakland is in first after a 7-over 295. The Golden Grizzlies lead second-place Ohio by three shots.
Senior Bria Colosky shot a 4-over 76 for the Chippewas, while sophomore Meghan Deardorff posted a 79, junior Danielle Sawyer carded an 80, and senior Holly Hines shot 86. CMU sophomore Rachel Leucuta, playing as an individual, shot 80.
Colosky is among a group tied for 11th.
"Bria struck the ball very solidly today and had that confident stride in her step that we saw so much of in the fall," Earle said.
The second and final round of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday.
