CMU among top 10 nationally in academic progress rates in four sports
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan golf, soccer, softball and women's basketball programs have been recognized by the NCAA for their respective Academic Progress Rates.
Specifically, these four CMU teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports.
"We congratulate our four teams for earning this recognition," Zyzlewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Michael Alford said. "This shows the tremendous commitment that our student-athletes, coaches, and our Institutional Support Services staff have in regards to the importance of academics in the realm of intercollegiate athletics.
"I am very proud of our student-athletes for achieving, and maintaining, a high standard of excellence and of their continual hard work both in their athletic endeavors and in their academic pursuits."
The NCAA announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
