Chippewas head to Bowling Green for preview of course, field
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – A taste of what is to come.
The Central Michigan cross country teams will head to Bowling Green, Ohio, on Saturday for the Falcon Invitational, hosted by Bowling Green. The event – a 6K for the women, an 8K for the men – will be contested on the new Bowling Green Cross Country Course.
The women's race begins at 2 p.m.; the men's will follow.
It marks the first time the Chippewas will run on the Falcons' new course. The Mid-American Conference Championships are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21, on the same course.
"The most-important thing about this weekend is just to get a feel for the course," CMU director of track & field Jenny Swieton said, adding that for some of her younger runners, it will be their first run at college distance. "It'll be good for them to see what that feels like, when to push themselves in the races, but also see the important parts of the course and where they need to move."
In addition, it will give the Chippewas a more-legitimate feel for a cross country race. The field comprises nine women's teams and six men's teams.
"We have not been in a race with a lot of people in a long time," Swieton said. "So it'll be good to get that feel. Obviously, it would be cool if some people ran some good times, but we're really just getting ready for MACs."
