Chippewa Men Fall At Eastern

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Eastern Michigan used a 16-2 game-closing surge in downing the Chippewas, 67-63, in a Mid-American Conference men's basketball game on Saturday at the Eagles' Convocation Center.
CMU, 13-16, has lost eight consecutive games. The Eagles, 16-13, and Chippewas are both 6-10 in MAC play and tied for fourth place in the MAC West.
How It Happened
The Chippewas led for the vast majority of the game and were seemingly in control, 61-51, with under five minutes to play.
Down 61-52, Eastern got back-to-back 3-pointers in a 43-second span from Yeikson Monero and then consecutive dunks put the Eagles in front, 62-61, with just over a minute to play. The Eagles outscored CMU, 43-30, in the second half.
Down 66-63, CMU had one last chance to tie the game, but it committed a turnover with 2 seconds to play.
"They obviously made shots (in the second half)," CMU coach Keno Davis said. "We had a couple of opportunities offensively to maybe ice the game or put it out of reach, but we didn't play like a team with much confidence.
"I thought we played hard enough to win today. That's a big step. We have to play smarter, (be) sharper in what we do, especially to be able to win on the road. Hopefully we will moving forward."
Leaders
Dallas Morgan led CMU in scoring with 16 points, while Rob Montgomery had a career high 16 rebounds. David DiLeo added 14 points.
Montero hit five of his seven 3-point attempts en route to a game-high 17 points to lead the Eagles.
