Baseball Takes On North Florida In First Spring Break Series

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan baseball team kicks off its spring break trip to Florida with a four-game series this weekend in Jacksonville against North Florida.
The opener is Friday at 6 p.m., and the teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. The series is set to conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m. Saturday's games are scheduled for seven innings each.
The Chippewas, 6-5, dropped three of four games last weekend in Arizona. They went 1-1 against the host Wildcats and 0-2 against Rhode Island.
Offensive Struggles
The Chippewas are averaging just 1.7 runs per game in their last two series after scoring 10 runs per game in their season-opening four-game set at UNLV. The Chippewas have been held to one or less runs in three of their last seven games.
The Chippewas stranded a season-high 13 baserunners in their last game, a 3-2 loss to Rhode Island.
CMU tallied 33 walks in its four games at UNLV. The Chippewas have walked just 29 times in the seven games since. The Chippewas have recorded 46 hits in the seven games since tallying 45 in their first four games.
Pitching Leaders
CMU starter Jordan Patty gave up his first run of the season in his third start of the year, a 5-1 loss last weekend to Arizona. Patty has pitched 19 2/3 innings and leads the Mid-American Conference with a 0.46 earned run average.
He is holding opposing hitters to a .095 batting average and has struck out 16. He is third in the conference in both opponent average and innings pitched and ranks 10th in strikeouts.
Hitting Leaders
Griffin Lockwood-Powell leads the Chippewas in batting average (.341). He ranks ninth in the MAC in on-base percentage (.491), third in walks (10) and is tied for seventh in hits (14). Lockwood-Powell and Zavier Warren shared the team lead in hits with 14 each.
CMU's Zach Gilles is tied for seventh in the conference in RBI with 10. He's also tied for second in the league with two triples.
