Dear CMU,
As my five years here are coming to an end, I want to take some time to thank everyone who has played a part in my career.
First and foremost thank you God for your love, sacrifice and faithfulness.
Thank you to my parents for your endless support and love. Thank you for coaching me when I was younger, leading me to be the best teammate and player that I could be. Thank you for just being my parents and knowing how to comfort me in the bad times and celebrate with me in the good times. Thank you to my dad for your spirit and love for the game that you have instilled in me from a young age. Thank you to my mom for your fierceness, strength, and grace that I have been able to learn from. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful role model in my life. You are my biggest inspiration and reason that I have chosen my career path.
Thank you to my grandparents for coming to all my games and being so loving to me and my teammates.
Thank you to the rest of my friends and family who have cheered me on at games and supported me along the way. To everyone who has traveled from near and far, I appreciate the love and care you have shown as you sacrificed your time to be at my games.
Thank you to all my teammates and the players who came before me. Thank you for all the memories and life long friendships. I will miss goofing around with everyone, laughing and joking with my best friends, but I look forward to rooting you all on for the rest of your careers.
Thank you to all my coaches. Thank you Coach G for 4 great years. I'll always remember your intensity, passion and many "unique" sayings. Thank you Coach Heather for your dedication to developing players and teaching me "if you're not cheating, you're not trying."
Thank you to the strength coaches and athletic trainers that I have worked with in the past five years. I appreciate your dedication to the betterment of the health of student athletes. In particular, I want to thank Taylor Larson who spent countless hours in the weight room with me my first few years. You have prepared me mentally and physically for this year and I just want to say how much I appreciated the time you invested in me.
Thank you to everyone in student athlete services who have helped me chase my dream of becoming a physical therapist. Thank you Tera Albrecht for the long talks in your office and help in planning my future I could not have done it without you.
Thank you to all the professors at CMU who have gone above and beyond to make my academic experience just as good as my athletic experience. Thank you to all the professors who have been fans of CMU sports and fans of students in the classroom.
Thank you to myself, thank you for caring about you. Thank you to my body for carrying me through these five years. Thank you for the sacrifice, skill, and love you have given to me.
Thank you to basketball for the journey you have taken me on from 3rd grade to now. I will never forget the good times we have had together and the lessons you have taught me that I will forever carry with me for the rest of my life.
Thank you CMU for the memories, traditions, and opportunities for me to fully become the women that I am meant to be.
Sincerely,
Gabrielle Bird
