Standout gymnast adds to list of accolades
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Denelle Pedrick, one of the most decorated and accomplished gymnasts in Central Michigan history, has been nominated for the prestigious 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
The award recognizes a graduating female student-athlete who has distinguished herself academically, athletically, in service, and in leadership throughout her collegiate career.
Pedrick, who hails from Wilcox, Saskatchewan, Can., wrapped up her brilliant CMU career in 2020 by repeating as the Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Year and earning the MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year Award.
She is the third Chippewa to sweep the league's top two individual awards, is the first in program history to capture back-to-back MAC Gymnast of the Year Awards, and is just the fourth in conference history to have accomplished that feat.
She is a two-time NCAA Regional champion and twice qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Pedrick is a three-time MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete, was named three times in her career to the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women Scholar-Athlete Team, and was named to the 2020 Academic All-District 5 At-Large Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Pedrick, an exercise science/kinesiology major, is set to graduate in August with a 3.80 grade point average, was one of 12 student-athletes named to the District 5 squad, which comprises athletes from Division I schools in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, and one of 95 from across the nation to earn All-District honors. She is the first Chippewa gymnast to earn the honor since 2003.
Pedrick was named the winner of CMU's Bill Boyden Award, which annually recognizes a senior student-athlete who combines outstanding athletic performance with exemplary leadership on campus and in the community.
