Field Hockey Falls To First-Place Miami In Overtime

OXFORD, Ohio —The Central Michigan field hockey team fell to Miami (Ohio), 3-2 in overtime, on Friday in a Mid-American Conference match at the Miami Field Hockey Complex.
The Chippewas are 3-8, 1-3 MAC; the RedHawks are 7-8, 4-0.
The Chippewas were vying for a second upset of a MAC heavyweight in two weeks. They knocked off 23rd-ranked Kent State on Sept. 24 at home. Miami is the four-time defending league regular-season champion.
"We had some great things come out of this game with the team at the top of the MAC," CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said. "We talked all week about having to play as a team, and we did that exceptionally well on the defensive end today."
CMU's Alice O'Hagan scored with just eight seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime. The Chippewas had pulled goalie Katie Maxim for the extra attacker at that point.
"For Alice to not crack under pressure and get that last shot off the corner and send us into overtime was amazing," Ostoich said.
BobbiMarie Parker scored CMU's other goal. Avery Periard and Hannah Havrilla each had an assist for the Chippewas.
Miami got the game-winning goal in the ninth minute of overtime.
Maxim, who re-entered the game for the extra session, made a career-high 15 saves.
"I think we held them really well in this game," Ostoich said. "Miami is a team that has been blowing opponents out and to hold them to only three goals, two in regulation, is great on our defensive end, and Katie had some really great saves today as well."
CMU will entertain No. 1-ranked Iowa on Sunday, Oct. 10 (noon) at Cristy Freese Field.
