MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan gymnastics team returns to Mid-American Conference competition on Friday (5 p.m.) when the Chippewas go to Bowling Green for a dual meet.
CMU is coming off a dual-meet loss at Western Michigan on Sunday. The Chippewas scored a season-high 194.075 in the meet. They were led by sophomore Hannah DeMers, who won the uneven parallel bars, the vault, the floor exercise and the all-around.
DeMers is ranked 28th nationally in all-around and is 25th on bars and 40th on vault. At 78th, junior Sierra DeMarinis is the highest-ranked Chippewa nationally on floor exercise.
The Chippewas' score in their meet at Western was 1.700 points better than the score they posted in their Jan. 24 season-opening loss at Ball State.
"We definitely moved in the right direction," CMU coach Christine MacDonald said. "We haven't had that consistency that we need; we're kind of getting there, but we're still not there. As we start to solidify the lineup, I think we'll see that consistency. We'll continue to focus on the little things, and I believe the little things will take care of the outcome."
Bowling Green is 0-3 and has not fielded a full lineup in its last two meets.
CMU's home opener is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 11 (2 p.m.) against Northern Illinois. It is the first of three home meets on the Chippewas' schedule. They are slated to entertain Bowling Green on Feb. 28 and are set to host a quad with Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Ball State on March 13.
