Softball Heads To Notre Dame For Mid-Week Nonleaguer

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan softball team is scheduled to play at Notre Dame in the Fighting Irish's Melissa Cook Stadium on Wednesday (5 p.m.).
It is CMU's final nonconference game of the season.
The Chippewas are 4-13 after dropping four games last weekend at Miami (Ohio), which leads the MAC with an 8-0 record. CMU is 2-6 in league play.
The Chippewas went hitless in the opening game of the series with the RedHawks, who lead the MAC in both hitting (.318 team batting average) and pitching (3.22 team earned run average). CMU collected 14 hits over the final three games of the series.
Two of those hits were home runs, one by Morgan Gardner and the other by Shannon Stein.
Gardner leads the Chippewa regulars in hitting with a .375 batting average, while Shaidan Knapp and Kelsey Alexander share the team lead with two homers apiece. Emily Bracamonte leads CMU with eight RBI.
Freshman pitcher Grace Lehto has started nine of the Chippewas' 17 games. She carries a team best 4.65 ERA and has struck out 60 in 52 2/3 innings.
Notre Dame is 16-8 and coming off a sweep of North Carolina State in a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series. Irish outfielder Abbey Sweet ranks sixth in the nation with a .538 batting average.
The Chippewas return to MAC play this weekend when they entertain Ball State. Friday's game (3 p.m.) at Margo Jonker Stadium is CMU's home opener.
