Vartyan Leads Chippewas In Final Round

KIRKWOOD, Mo. – Zoe Vartyan shot 75 on Tuesday to lead the Central Michigan golf team in the third and final round of the Southern Illinois Diane Daugherty Invitational at Greenbriar Hills Country Club.
Vartyan's 75 was the lowest score of the tournament by a Chippewa. She finished with a 54-hole 239 total and among a group tied for 35th in the 88-player field.
"Zoe played fantastic today to shoot 75," CMU coach Jim Earle said. "Our struggles continued, especially around the course's undulated, large greens. We are looking forward to getting back to campus and getting back to work."
The Chippewas posted a 324 team score on Tuesday to finish with a 54-hole 982 total and in 15th place in the 16-team tournament. Tuesday's round was CMU's best of the tournament.
Also for CMU on Tuesday, Padgett Chitty shot 81, Rachel Kauflin carded an 83, and Meghan Deardorff shot 85. Kauflin, a freshman, finished at 243, while Deardorff came in at 249, and Chitty finished at 252.
Arkansas State shot 309 on Tuesday to finish with a 914 total and win the tournament by two shots over South Dakota (916).
Day-1 leader Taylor Ledwein of Bradley shot 76 on Tuesday to finished with a 221 total and win the tournament by one shot over South Dakota teammates Danica Badura and Akari Hayashi.
