Track & Field Wraps Up Weekend At Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kaitlynn Rush finished fifth in the 100-meter dash and Erin Howard was eighth in the discus on Saturday to the lead the Central Michigan track & field team at the Louisville Clark Wood Open at Louisville's Cardinal Park.
Rush, a freshman, was clocked at 12.20 seconds in the 100, which was contested under adverse conditions with cold temperatures and rain.
"I think what's really great about (Rush) is she's been super consistent and usually when you're really consistent it means you're ready for a breakthrough performance and it's right about the right time for that to happen," CMU Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton said. "I think for a freshman especially, it's hard to be really consistent. It's a longer year and season than they're used to, and she's done really well in handling it."
Howard's discus throw measured 46.74 meters.
The Chippewas are scheduled to go to the Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday, May 1, and then are set to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships, May 7-8 at Miami (Ohio).
"I think we're in a really good spot," Swieton said. "This is a weird year because the MAC meet is a week earlier than it normally is, so it's interesting to look at things and know that it is right around the corner. We're getting better every weekend and that's all that we can ask for right now.
"Every weekend that we get a chance to compete, we're just so grateful. That we're able to have a season and that we're able to go to meets and compete and our athletes are accomplishing things that they never thought they were capable of, that's a super good feeling. No matter what happens moving forward, there's been so many great things that have happened this season."
