MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan lacrosse team is set to entertain Akron on Saturday (1 p.m.) in a Mid-American Conference game at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
The game begins the final week of the Chippewas' season. They are scheduled to go to Detroit Mercy on Monday, May 3, and then close the season at home on Saturday, May 8 against Youngstown State. Both are MAC games.
CMU is 7-6, 5-2 MAC after a 19-9 victory on Wednesday over Kent State. The Chippewas won the first meeting with the Zips, 17-7, in Akron on April 3.
In that game, the Chippewas' Natalie Karlen scored eight goals and added three assists for 11 points. Karlen enters Saturday's game with 162 career goals. She needs two to surpass Jocelyne Lemay, who played for the Chippewas from 2016-19, as the program's career leader in goals.
Karlen leads the MAC in goals (55), goals per game (4.23), points (71) and points per game (5.46). She is tied for eighth in the nation in goals, tied for 11th in goals per game and points per game, and 13th in points.
The Zips are 7-7, 4-5 in their first full season of lacrosse. The program began playing in 2020, going 0-7 during the COVID-shortened season.
