MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan softball team is scheduled to close the 2021 season this weekend when it entertains Ohio in a Mid-American Conference four-game series at Margo Jonker Stadium.
The series gets underway on Friday (3 p.m.) and continues with a doubleheader on Saturday (1 p.m.) and concludes on Sunday (noon).
The Chippewas are 17-27, 15-19 MAC; the Bobcats are 20-23, 16-18.
CMU on Tuesday split a league doubleheader at Toledo, winning the opener 5-2 and then falling in the nightcap, 2-1. The Chippewas scored four runs in the seventh inning in overcoming a 2-1 deficit to win game 1; both Rocket runs in the nightcap were unearned.
Chippewa leadoff hitter Abbey Tolmie has hit safely in her last season games and is hitting .444 over that span. Her hit streak coincides with coach McCall Salmon moving her into the leadoff spot.
Tolmie leads the Chippewas with a .348 batting average, while three other Chippewas are batting above .300. They are Shaidan Knapp (.347), Morgan Gardner (.328), and Shannon Stein (.302).
Knapp, a senior, ranks fifth in the MAC with a .484 on-base percentage and is fourth with 27 walks. Stein, a junior, is eighth in the conference with 37 runs batted in.
Stein and Caitlyn Britton share the team lead with six home runs.
