MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- A new coach, and a slew of new faces.
First-year Central Michigan men's basketball coach Tony Barbee has announced the arrival of 12 newcomers – four true freshmen, eight transfers – on his roster for the 2021-22 season.
Those 12 student-athletes, who come from all points on the compass and from as far away as Australia, will join four returners including forwards Ralph Bissainthe, Aundre Polk, a member of the 2021 Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team, and Caleb Hodgson in addition to walk-on guard Dylan Jergens.
The transfers bring a measure of experience and size, led by Harrison Henderson, a 6-foot-11, 240-pound graduate student who played in 2020-21 at Southern; and 6-10, 235-pound sophomore Miroslav Stafl, a native of the Czech Republic who played last season at Hartford.
"We're excited to welcome all 12 newcomers to the program," said Barbee, who was named to lead the program in April. "We think all will make major contributions and will join with the players who are already here in delivering an exciting, fast-paced, hard-nosed brand of basketball as we look to establish a new championship culture here at Central Michigan."
Another sophomore who hails from Europe and who played last season at Hartford is 6-6 Rastislav Sipkovsky, a forward from Slovakia. The third international in the group is 6-3 junior guard Cameron Healy, an Australian who played the past three seasons at Albany.
Oscar Lopez, a 6-4 guard originally from Cypress, Calif., transferred to CMU after two seasons at DePaul.
The class of transfers also includes three with Michigan roots, Detroiter Brian Taylor, a 6-6 junior guard/forward who played the last two years at Illinois-Chicago; 6-foot junior Jermaine Jackson Jr., who prepped at Dakota High School in suburban Detroit and has played at Long Island and Detroit Mercy; and 6-2 guard Ryan Wade, an Ann Arbor product, who comes to CMU from Holy Cross.
Combined, the transfers will add nearly 50 points and more than 20 rebounds per game of experienced production to the roster mix.
The quartet of freshmen comprises 6-6 guard/forward Tony Green of Naples, Fla. (Naples High School); 6-foot guard Kevin Miller of Chicago (Victory Rock Prep, Fla.); 6-11 center Nicolas Pavrette of Lyon, France (Central Pointe Christian Academy, Fla.); and 6-4 walk-on guard Jack Webb of Leawood, Kan. (South Mission High School).
