MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Ohio utilized a 11-0 run early in the second half on Thursday in handing Central Michigan a 81-72 Mid-American Conference men's basketball loss at McGuirk Arena.
The Chippewas, who had won four of their last five entering Thursday's game, are 6-15, 5-5 MAC. Ohio is 20-4, 11-2.
Â
CMU is set to play at Western Michigan (4-20, 0-13) on Saturday, Feb 12. (7 p.m.) at University Arena in Kalamazoo. The Chippewas defeated the Broncos, 65-55, on Feb. 3. WMU fell 62-57, to Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday.
Â
"I thought we played hard and competed," CMU coach Tony Barbee said. "But they're what the top of the league looks like. If you're going to come out on the other end of the scoreboard with a win, you've got to impose your will; they imposed their will on us in the second half and I think that was the difference in the game."
Â
The Bobcats hit 49 percent from the floor and held CMU to 41.4 percent. The Chippewas led, 38-28, in rebounds.
Â
CMU led 29-28 at halftime and then scored the first five points of the third quarter to extend its lead to six, 34-28, early in the second. The Bobcats then went on an 11-0 run to grab a 39-34 advantage and never trailed after that.
Â
Ohio extended its run to lead by nine, 54-45, midway through the second half. The Chippewas closed to within five points with under a minute to play, but could get no closer.
Â
Kevin Miller hit a career-high 25 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead CMU. Harrison Henderson added 16 points and nine rebounds, while Brian Taylor finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Â
"Since we've come out of the (COVID-19 protocol) break, everybody who is on this team who is healthy and playing are completely committed to playing how we have to play to win," Barbee said. "That's tough. And we expect to win these games."
