Track & Field Posts 11 Top-10 Finishes at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Mohogany Wells posted two third-place finishes to lead the Central Michigan track & field team on Friday at the Silverston Invitational at the Michigan Indoor Track Facility.

The meet served as a warmup for the Chippewas ahead of the Mid-American Conference Championships, which are Feb. 25-26 in Kent, Ohio.

Wells, a redshirt freshman, finished third in the shot put with a throw of 14.32 meters (46 feet, 11 ¾ inches) and was third in the weight throw at 17.37 meters (57-0). Her shot put was an indoor personal best.

CMU's Kirsten Spegel also placed in both events. She was fifth in the weight throw at 14.24 meters (46-8 3/4) and finished sixth in the shot put at 11.97 meters (39-3 ¼).

The Chippewas had seven other top-10 finishes:

• Two CMU runners, Emma Francis and Annie Laurenz, turned in top-10 placings in the 400-meter dash. Francis finished 4th in 59.29 seconds, while Laurenz came in at 1:01.04 for a seventh-place finish.

• Redshirt freshman Lindsey Clarke was third in the triple jump at 10.66 meters (34-11 ¾).

• Freshman Jaci Rife was sixth in the long jump with a leap measuring 5.2 meters (17-0 ¾), while fellow freshman Camiyah James was 10th at 5.17 meters (16-11 ½).

• CMU's Tricia Pierce and Shelby Korytkowski finished sixth and 10th, respectively, in the pole vault. Pierce's best vault measured 3.61 meters (11-10), while Korytkowski's measured 3.46 meters (10-4 ½).

• CMU redshirt freshman Jelena Prescott clocked in a time of 5:12.94 to finish eighth in the mile.
