Women's Golf Finishes 9th At Lady Thunderbird Invitational

SAINT GEORGE, Utah – The Central Michigan women's golf team closed with a 298 team score on Saturday to finish in ninth place with a 54-hole 930 total at the Pizza Hut-Lady Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Club.
The Chippewas' final-round score was an 11-shot improvement over their second-round 309 and a 25-shot improvement over their first-round 323.
Casilda Allendesalazar and Zoe Vartyan both shot a 1-over 73 in the final round to lead the Chippewas, while Padgett Chitty posted a 3-over 75 to finish with a team-best 14-over 230 total and a tie for 23rd place in the 105-player field.
Allendesalazar finished at 231 and among a group tied at 27th. Vartyan finished at 236 and tied for 47th.
Also for the Chippewas on Saturday, Claudia Salvador shot 77 and Rachel Kauflin carded a 79. Both finished at 239 and tied for 57th.
CMU's Ashley Goh, playing as an individual, closed with a 77 to finish tied for 31st at 233. CMU's Mackenzie Baustad and Ashley Liles, who also played in the tournament as individuals, shot 80 and 93, respectively, on Saturday.
Arkansas State posted a 292 team total on Saturday to finish with an 889 total and win the tournament by one shot over Seattle. Southern Utah's Pluem Yongyuan was the tournament medalist with a 1-over 217. Yongyuan finished one shot ahead of Kiana Oshiro of Oral Roberts.
The Chippewas are scheduled to play in the Cleveland State Nevel Meade Collegiate in Prospect, Ky. on Monday and Tuesday, March 21-22.
