CMU (3-6) is set to finish the weekend with a single game against the River Hawks on Sunday (12 p.m.).
UMass Lowell (2-6) got two-run homers in each of the first two innings against Chippewa starter Jordan Patty in building a 4-1 lead, and then extended it to 7-1 through seven innings.
The Chippewas scored three runs in the ninth inning to draw to 7-4 and then had two on with the tying run at the plate when the game ended on a strikeout.
