Field Hockey Drops Weekend Finale

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Central Michigan field hockey dropped its first game of the season on Sunday, falling 4-0 to No. 21-ranked American at Michigan State's Ralph Young Field.
Federica Turina Dellamaggiore had a hat trick for the Eagles, scoring in the ninth, 23rd and 46th minutes. The Chippewas and American are both 1-1.
Chippewa keeper Katie Maxim finished with eight saves on American's 12 shots on goal. CMU attempted five shots on goal and had four penalty corners while the Eagles finished with seven.
Eight Chippewas attempted a shot, with midfielders Kate Biglin and Alice O'Hagan leading with two apiece.
CMU is scheduled to travel to Michigan's Phyllis Ocker Field to battle Ohio on Friday, Sept. 2 (3 p.m.) in a nonleague game. The Chippewas are then scheduled to play the Wolverines on Sunday, Sept. 4 (1 p.m.).
The Bobcats are scheduled to open their season on Sunday afternoon, playing host to California. Michigan (0-1) dropped its season opener to North Carolina on Friday.
