Jaehn's 1-under 70 Leads CMU On Opening Day At Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Ethan Jaehn shot a 1-under 70 in the second round on Monday to lead the Central Michigan men's golf team at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational at Guyan Golf & Country Club.
Jaehn opened the tournament with a 2-over 73 for a 36-hole 143 total. He is among a group tied for 24th in the 95-player field.
The Chippewas opened with a 295 team total and followed with a second-round 291 for a 586 total. CMU is in 11th place, two shots behind 10th-place Morehead State. The field comprises 15 teams. The third and final round of the 54-hole, stroke-play tournament is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
CMU is playing in its second tournament of the 2022-23 season and its second since the program was resurrected after a 37-year hiatus.
Jaehn's 70 is the lowest by a Chippewa in CMU's two tournaments and is the team's first sub-par round of the season. Jaehn began his round with a birdie and then a bogey on the 11th and 12th holes, respectively.
He finished his opening nine holes with a flurry, recording consecutive birdies on holes 16, 17 and 18 to turn at 3-under. He played his final 10 holes in 2-over. The course is playing to par 71 over 6,523 yards.
Also for CMU on Monday, Philippe Yturralde shot 72-74 – 146; Orlando Coons shot 73-76 – 149; Nicholas Kilgore shot 77-73 – 150; and Jeffrey Andrus shot 77-74 – 151. CMU's Arie Jackman, playing as an individual, shot 73-76 – 149. Yturralde is among a group tied for 46th.
Tyler Jones of Marshall leads the tournament at 6-under after shooting 66-70 – 136. He holds a one-shot lead over Lukas Jonsson of Appalachian State and Cam Kellett of Eastern Michigan.
Appalachian State has four players tied for seventh place or better after 36 holes and leads the tournament with an 18-under 550. The Mountaineers lead by 13 shots over second-place Marshall, the host team.
