CMU Men 12th After Day 1 At Folds Of Honor

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Philippe Yturralde shot a 3-over 75 and Jeffrey Andrus posted a 4-over 76 on Monday to lead the Central Michigan men's golf team in the opening round of the inaugural Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Club.
The Chippewas posted a 311 team score on Monday and stand in 12th place, two shots behind 11th-place UCLA and eight back of 10th-place North Carolina State.
Florida State shot a 1-under 287 on Monday and leads the tournament by three shots over second-place Liberty (290). Illinois (292) is third in the ultra-strong 18-team field that includes eight teams ranked by Golfweek in the top 100 in the nation.
The Seminoles are 14th and Illinois is eighth. Also in the field are No. 32 Arizona, No. 41 Oregon State, No. 55 Kansas, No. 67 Michigan State, No. 70 Liberty, and No. 94 Clemson.
CMU and Eastern Michigan are the lone Mid-American Conference partaking in the tournament. The Eagles (318) sit in 16th place after round one.
Round two on the prestigious American Dunes course, a Jack Nicklaus design near the Lake Michigan shore which opened in May, 2021, is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The final round in the 54-hole event is set for Wednesday.
Also for CMU on Monday, Ethan Jaehn shot 77, Orlando Coons posted an 83, and Nicholas Kilgore carded an 86. All five of the Chippewas who are playing in the event are freshmen.
Yturralde is among a group tied for 30th in the 90-player field, while Andrus is tied for 38th and Jaehn is tied for 45th.
Jonathan Yaun of Liberty shot a 3-under 69 and leads the tournament by one shot over Brett Roberts of Florida State and Charles DeLong of Grand Valley State.
Folds of Honor is a nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of military members who have fallen or been disabled while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Beginning in 2022, it expanded its mission to include first responders.
