CMU Men Combine for Program Lows, Career Bests on Final Day of The Buddy

Led by Philippe Yturralde's 3rd-place finish, CMU recorded best team finish to date (3rd)
MURRAY, Ky. — A fantastic finish to the autumn tournament schedule in the 2023-24 season.
On the final day of fall play for the Central Michigan men's golf team, the Chippewas combined for two program lows on Tuesday in round three of Murray State's The Buddy.
Just having broken the 18-hole program low by two shots with a 287 team score on Monday, CMU carded a powerful 9-under 275 in Tuesday's final round. Combined with Monday's 296 and 287, the Chippewas closed the tournament with a team score of 6-over 858.
The 858 rocketed CMU from its spot in seventh place and onto the podium, finishing third in the 10-team field. It also serves as the Chippewas' 54-hole record, previously set at 875 on Oct. 2-3 at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate.
The podium finish is the best team finish to date. The Chippewas' previous best was fifth at the Sept. 18-19 Valpo Fall Invitational.
Leading the Chippewas in round three were Philippe Yturralde and Jeffrey Andrus, who both shot 4-under 67. It was a career low for Andrus, who shot a pair of 72s on Monday to finish tied for eight with 211.
Yturralde placed third, which ties the best individual finish by a Chippewa. It was his second career top-10 finish, also his second top-10 finish in two tournaments. He shot 1-over 72 and 2-under 69 on Monday to finish with 208.
Also in the top 10 was CMU's Arie Jackman, who played as an individual. He shot a 2-over 73 on Tuesday to go with Monday's pair of 2-under 69s. He finished eight alongside Andrus.
CMU's Orlando Coons moved up 17 places in round three to finish tied for 15th in the 67-player field. He shot a 2-under 69, a career best, combined with Monday's 73 and 72 for 214. Chippewa freshman Trey Rusthoven finished tied for 53rd after carding a 1-over 72 on Tuesday, his best 18-hole score of the tournament. He shot 79 and 76 on Monday.
CMU's Easton Phillips placed 55th with 3-over 74 in round three. He recorded 80 and 74 on Monday.
The Chippewas ranked third in par 3 scoring and fourth in par 4 scoring as a team, averaging 3.17 (+10) and 4.12 (+20) in the respective categories. CMU ranked second in pars with 167, two shy of IUPUI's 169.
Led by Yturralde's 12 birdies, CMU ranked third in the tournament with 45.
Yturralde also tied for second in par 3 and par 5 scoring, averaging 2.92 (-1) on par 3s, and 4.44 (-5) on par 5s.
With the fall portion of the 2023-24 season completed, the Chippewas will return to competitive play in February with the MAC/A10 Match Play Challenge in Dade City, Fla., scheduled for Feb. 5-6.
