Munson Earns Weekly MAC Award

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Corbyn Munson was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday.
Munson, a graduate student from Chelsea, capped a perfect 5-0 week to open the season by winning the title in the 149-pound open division at the Michigan State Open.
Ranked 13th nationally by InterMat, Munson had three pins on the week and two of his victories came over ranked wrestlers. He opened the season with a 4-2 win over 14th-ranked Willie McDougald of Oklahoma, and then recorded three pins in going 4-0 in rolling to the title at the Michigan State Open.
At MSU, Munson pinned Grand Valley State's Michael Merrit in the first period and then posted an 8-1 win over Aidan Medora of Wisconsin. He followed with a second-period pin of Oklahoma's Cameron Pickle and then pinned 15th-ranked Joseph Zargo of Wisconsin in the third period in the title match.
Munson and the Chippewas are scheduled to wrestle in a nonconference double-dual on Sunday, Nov. 19, at Illinois with North Carolina.
