Baseball Drops Twinbill at UTRGV

The Chippewas (3-3) and Vaqueros (5-1) meet in game four of the five-game series on Saturday (noon ET) and close the series on Sunday (noon ET).
The Vaqueros took advantage of two wild pitches in scoring their first run in the third inning of game one, and then got a solo homer later that inning for a 2-1 lead against CMU starter Garrett Navarra (0-1).
UTRGV extended its lead in the fourth when the leadoff batter reached on an error and then Brandon Pimentel homered to make it 4-1. The Vaqueros added another run in the inning for a 5-1 lead and then eventually extended their advantage to 10-1 after seven innings.
The Chippewas scored four runs in the ninth, highlighted by Ely Stuart's three-run homer. It was the first homer for Stuart, a junior in his first year at CMU after transferring from UC Riverside.
Navarra allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits and walked four. Ryan Insco, Jack Bach and Ryan Culley pitched in relief. Only five of the Vaqueros' 10 runs were earned as CMU committed three errors.
Marquis Jackson, who had an RBI single in the ninth, led CMU with two hits.
UTRGV starter Angelo Cabral, a junior right-hander, blanked the Chippewas over 6 1/3 innings in the nightcap, striking out 15 and allowing two hits, a third-inning Nick Dardas double and a Danny Wuestenfeld single in the fourth.
Starter Keegan Batka (1-1) allowed eight runs on seven hits while walking two in taking the loss.
Ryan Palmblad, Evan Waters and Brennan Morgan pitched in relief. CMU pitching combined to strike out seven and walk six.
CMU committed four errors. Three of the Vaqueros' runs were unearned.
RJ Ochoa hit a two-run home run in the second inning and then hit a two-run triple to highlight the Vaqueros' five-run third, giving them a 7-0 lead.
The Chippewas got RBI singles from Justin Simpson and Navarra in the eighth.
