Softball Drops Series at Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Central Michigan Softball team dropped the final two games of their series against the Ball State Cardinals. The Chippewas fall to 10-16 overall and 0-3 in the MAC. Ball State moves to 13-12 overall and 4-1 in the MAC.
Game 1:
A pitcher dual ended in extra innings for the Chippewas in their first game of the double header in MAC play.
Central Michigan struck first in the fourth inning as Michaleigh Vallimont crossed home when Allyssa Hollo reached on an error by the second baseman. That run scored by Vallimont would be the only run until the bottom of the seventh when the Cardinals tied it up with a home run.
In extra innings, a walk off double scored the winning run to end the game at 2-1 for a Ball State victory.
Madelyn Wallace took the loss for Central Michigan as she entered in the top of the eighth inning as the game was tied 1-1. Kaitlyn Bean threw the seven innings prior striking out five and allowing six hits. Wallace falls to 4-3 for the season.
Game 2:
Once again, Central Michigan started the game by scoring but did not add much more after their initial attack.
In the first inning, Hollo singled and scored Vallimont who reached after getting hit by a pitch. A three-run Cardinal home run in the bottom half gave Ball State the edge.
Skylar Coberley doubled in the fourth and was driven in when Samantha Mills singled to right field. That string of hits ended the Chippewas scoring for the day.
Ball State scored eight unanswered runs to end the game in the bottom of the sixth with a walk off two-run home run.
Grace Lehto threw for five innings, giving up eight hits but striking out ten. Cierra Laska entered in relief in the sixth, faced five batters and gave up two hits. Lehto moves to 3-8 on the year.
What's Next:
The Chippewas will host Kent State as they have their home opener on Tuesday. Currently the series is slated for a single game on March 28th at 3 p.m. and a double header on Wednesday, March 29th starting at 1 p.m.
