Allendesalazar 2nd, Chippewas 3rd After First Round of MAC Championship

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Casilda Allendesalazar fired a 1-under par 71 on Monday and stands tied for second place after the first round of the Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship at Kalamazoo Country Club.
Allendesalazar led the Chippewas to a 304 team score and a tie for third place with Ball State in the 10-team event.
Kent State, which is ranked 42nd nationally and has won every title since the tournament's inception in 1999, shot 291 on Monday and leads by 12 shots over host Western Michigan (303).
The second round is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Saturday with the final round set for 11 a.m. Sunday.
Also for the Chippewas on Monday, Rachel Kauflin shot 75; Zoe Vartyan, 78; Ashley Goh, 80; and Padgett Chitty, 83.
Allendesalazar, a sophomore who trails Kayla Davis of Bowling Green by one shot, is vying for her fourth win of the 2022-23 season and the sixth of her career. Allendesalazar is tied for second with Kent State's Noramol Nuchsila.
Allendesalazar made a tournament-high seven birdies on her round along with four bogeys and one double bogey.
She finished first or tied for first in three consecutive tournaments leading up to CMU's last event, the Bowling Green Dolores Black Invitational. She tied for 10th in that event, which concluded on April 8.
Allendesalazar has finished in the top 10 in eight of CMU's 10 events this season.
