4/29/2023 6:01:00 PM | Softball
Oxford, Ohio – The Central Michigan Chippewas fell in a doubleheader to the Miami Redhawks on Saturday afternoon. CMU dropped the first game, 2-4 and the second 0-8 in five innings.
The Chippewas break an 11-game winning streak and fall to 27-21 overall and 17-8 in the MAC, while Miami (Ohio) advances to 31-17 overall and 18-7 in the MAC. The game shifts the Mid-American Conference standings in favor of the Redhawks, giving them a two-game slate over the Chippewas. CMU falls to third, behind Ohio, who is in second.
In game one, the Chippewas came out punching. Abbey Tolmie swung on the first pitch of the day and singled to right field. Michaleigh Vallimont followed suit and ripped a double to right center. Both scored when Kelsey Alexander singled up the middle.
Those would be the only two times a Chippewa crossed home plate between the two games.
Grace Lehto threw another complete game for the Maroon and Gold, her 17th of the season. Lehto allowed six hits, walked two and struck out six batters.
For game two, Kaitlyn Bean took the circle and was relieved by Madelyn Wallace in the second after a four run first for the Redhawks. Wallace allowed the final four runs through three and 1/3 innings of work.
The Chippewas recorded two hits in the second game, both coming from Allyssa Hollo.
Brianna Pratt threw both games for Miami (Ohio).
Central Michigan and Miami (Ohio) will face off again on Sunday, April 30th at noon for the series finale.
