INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA released the qualifiers for the 2023 NCAA I Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship regional preliminaries Thursday, announcing the inclusion of Hayley Manners, Emily Paupore and Anya Turner of Central Michigan University.
Â
Manners posted the best mark of any Mid-American Conference long jumper this outdoor season with a 6.28-meter leap at the University of Louisville's Clark Wood Open on April 28. The 20-foot, 7.25-inch output stands 22nd overall in the region. Last time out, the junior posted a 6.18-meter performance at the MAC Championships, good for a bronze medal at the University of Akron-hosted event.
Â
Paupore's season-best mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase came less than 24 hours after Manners' leap at Louisville as her 10:25.73—which currently ranks 41st in the region—came at the Grand Valley State University Extra Weekend Meet on April 29. Paupore earned the Chippewas' top performance, and second team All-MAC status, in last week's MAC Championships with a silver medal in the steeple.
Â
Turner raced her way into next week's qualifier in last week's MAC Championship steeple as she paced the entirety of the race stride for stride with Paupore to a bronze finish in 10:32.02, marking a 21-second improvement from her attempt at the 2022 MAC finale.
Â
The 2023 NCAA Championship East Preliminaries will be hosted by the University of North Florida May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Fla. The long jump will take place on Thursday, May 25 at 6:00 p.m., with the steeplechase set for a 5:40 p.m. start on Saturday, May 27.
Â
The top 12 competitors in each event will qualify for the 2023 NCAA I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Texas at Austin June 7-10 at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.
