Baseball Falls at Western Michigan; MAC Tournament Seeding Spot at Stake in Saturday's Regular Season Finale

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning on Friday in handing Central Michigan a 14-5 loss in a Mid-American Conference baseball game at the Broncos' Bobb Stadium.
The Chippewas, who have clinched a berth in the four-team MAC Tournament, are 32-21, 18-11 MAC. Western Michigan, which has also nailed down a tourney spot, is 21-28, 18-10. The teams play the three-game series finale on Saturday (1:05 p.m.).
Chippewa starter Garrett Navarra (3-4) held Western scoreless on three hits through four innings but ran into trouble in the fifth, when the first three Broncos reached base and then Cade Sullivan delivered a two-run double to put Western in front, 2-1.
Western sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning, scoring eight runs on seven hits.
CMU's Robby Morgan IV homered twice, giving him a team-leading 11 round-trippers on the season. He hit a solo shot in the seventh and a three-run blast in the eighth, upping his RBI total to 49, also a team best.
Ben Vitas, Nate Ross, Jack Bach and Ryan Culley pitched in relief for the Chippewas. Western collected 18 hits the second highest total of the season for a Chippewa opponent.
Kent State has wrapped up the regular season MAC title and, as the No. 1 seed, will host the tournament beginning on Wednesday, May 24. CMU, Western and Ball State will round out the field. The two-four seeds will be determined based on results of this weekend's games played between Kent State and Ball State, and the Chippewas and Broncos.
