Chippewas Fall to Mountaineers at Home

Central Michigan loses 3-1 to MAC opponent Appalachian State.
Mount Pleasant, Mich. – Today's afternoon match kicked off a busy weekend of Field Hockey on the campus of Central Michigan University. In the weekend opener the Central Michigan Field Hockey team faced off against Appalachian State. After a hard fought 60. Minutes on both sides App State emerged with a 3-1 win over the Chippewas.

Central Michigan opened the scoring early today with a quick goal less than five minutes into the first quarter. Zoey Emrick found the back of the cage unassisted to give the Chippewas the first lead of the game, snapping a six-game scoreless streak by the Chippewas.

Coletta Beeler put on an impressive performance in goal, serving the full 60 minutes as the Chippewas goalkeeper. Today Beeler matched her career high in saves (10), set last week against Michigan State University. This marks two games in a row where Beeler recorded 10 saves.

The Chippewas held their led into the half before App State was able to find the back of the cage quickly in the third period to equalize the game. Beeler was able to make five saves into the game to keep a tie game going into the fourth period.

At the start of the fourth period App State again quickly found the cage with a goal 27 seconds into the period to give the team its first lead of the day. The final goal of the day was scored just three minutes later to move the Mountaineers to a 3-1 lead. Â Beeler was able to put a stop to the final two App state shots.

The 3-1 loss moved Central Michigan to 1-8 on the year and 0-3 in Mid-American Conference play.

The Chippewas will be back to Cristy Freese field on Sunday as celebrate their seniors with an on field Senior Day presentation. Immediately after the ceremony the Chippewas will play a non-conference match against the Lindenwood Lions starting at noon.
