McLean 2nd in Shot Put at SVSU; Paupore, Turner Make 3rd All-Time Performances at Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — A Saturday full of success for Central Michigan Track and Field.
Highlighted by Emily Paupore and Anya Turner's All-Time Top 10 performances and a handful of CMU personal bests, the Chippewas completed their weekend at the Michigan Invitational and Saginaw Valley State's Jet's Pizza Invitational.
Paupore and Turner made their mark at the Michigan Invitational, where they both moved up the ranks on the CMU All-Time Indoor Top 10 lists. Additionally, CMU brings 19 new personal records home from SVSU, where 30-plus Chippewa track and field student-athletes competed on Saturday.
"I'm really happy with the weekend that we had as a team," said Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Jenny Swieton. "A majority of the team had a personal record or a season best and everybody competed really hard."
Paupore ran the 3000m in a 10th-place finish of 9:35.98, a time which not only moves her into the 3rd place All-Time spot, but ranks her 99th in the Division I NCAA for the event.
Turner completed the 800m in 2:10.51 for 4th place overall, shattering her previous indoor PR of 2:16.22. The performance lists her 3rd in the CMU All-Time
Top 10 and 80th in the DI NCAA for the 800m.
"It was really cool to see Emily and Anya divide and conquer," Swieton said. "They put their names in the record book for the second weekend in a row."
Also for the Chippewas in Ann Arbor were Peyton Korytkowski, who placed 6th in the 60m hurdles finals and 11th in the 200m dash, and Payton Sabourin, who finished 6th in the 400m dash.
Korytkowski, Sabourin, Ericka Bigham and Emma Fountain made a season-best finish of 3:52.67 in the 4x400, where the relay team placed 5th of 8.
At SVSU, Emily McLean placed 2nd in the shot put with a season-best launch of 13.49m. Ereka Risner finished 4th with a personal-best throw of 12.03m.
Four CMU sprinters saw personal bests; Sky Austin in the 200m, and Nicole Olivieri, Anna Plum and Robyn Watts in the 400m. Watts finished 8th in the
event with a time of 59.39.
Chesney Wilke placed 4th in the 800m at SVSU, having ran a personal-best 2:16.74. Libby Munderloh and Maya Guikema, both also in personal-best time, finished 8th and 10th respectively.
Mara Szuper and Ambria Nagel set personal bests in the 800m and the 1 mile events, as did Cambrie Smith, who ran just the mile alongside the pair.
In the 3000m, Kate Jenkins led the pack, placing 10th in a career-best time of 10:14.92. Quickly behind her were Annie Bennett (11th - PR), Jelena Prescott (12th), Jessie Gibbins (14th), Emma Janesak (15th) and Kara Terakedis (16th). Sophie Thomas and Ava Pergitone also achieved personal marks in the event.
The Chippewas fielded two 4x400 relay teams at the Jet's Pizza Invitational. The team of Munderloh, Rife, Grace Jenkins and Guikema placed 4th of 14, with Watts, Plum, Olivieri and Gouin finishing 7th.
"We had some huge breakthroughs this weekend," Swieton said. "I'm so excited to see what the next few meets hold.
