Camryn Scores 8th of Year for Chippewas; Seven Seniors Recognized
Mount Pleasant, Mich. — Central Michigan Field Hockey dropped a non-league game to Michigan State on Sunday, 3-1, at Cristy Freese Field on the Chippewas' senior day.
CMU celebrated its seven seniors after the game. Hannah Havrilla, Chloe Ward, Isabella D'Alessandro, Kaitlyn Bowker, Simoné Potgieter, Carly Kubacka and Coletta Beeler were all honored for their tenure to the program.
Beeler was critical in keeping the Chippewas in the fight against the Spartans, making six saves in the cage.
CMU held MSU scoreless through the first 15 minutes and fell to just an 0-1 deficit by halftime. Sophomore defender Klára Mikulášková logged two defensive saves, one in the first quarter and another 30 seconds into the third quarter, bringing her season total to four.
Mallory Camryn scored for the Chippewas late in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to just two goals. Camryn, assisted by Kaitlyn Bowker, navigated the Spartan defense on an offensive penalty corner to find the scoring opportunity.
The Spartans took 22 shots to CMU's eight, but just ten were on the mark.
The Chippewas, who are 0-5 in the MAC, currently must best out the records of Bellarmine (1-4 MAC) and Longwood (2-3 MAC), barring further wins from those teams, in order to contend for the six-team MAC Tournament which begins on Nov. 6.
CMU, now 3-10 overall, returns to Mid-American Conference play on Oct. 18 at Kent State. The Golden Flashes (3-10, 2-2 MAC) are one of three opponents left on CMU's league slate. CMU hosts Miami (Ohio) on Oct. 25 and Ohio on Nov. 1.
