Field Hockey falls to Kent State; Chippewas to host Miami (OH) next Friday

Mount Pleasant, Mich. — Central Michigan Field Hockey fell on Friday to Mid-American Conference foe Kent State, 3-7, at the Golden Flashes' Murphy-Mellis Field.
Senior Carly Kubacka scored her first career goal, poking a pass from Shannon Dwyer just beyond the Golden Flashes keeper late in the third quarter.
Amelia Lane and Mallory Camryn also scored for CMU; Lane scored off a penalty corner late in the first quarter, assisted by Klara Mikulaskova. Lane assisted as the inserter on Camryn's fourth-quarter goal, also from a penalty corner. Kaitlyn Bowker earned the second assist on the play.
The Chippewas made nine shots, seven of which were on goal. CMU and Kent State drew the same number of penalty corners with seven each.
Senior keeper Coletta Beeler made 4 saves in the first half. Freshman Jenna Billig went the second half in the cage.
CMU, now 3-11, overall and 0-6 in the league, will host Miami (Ohio) in a Colon Cancer Awareness game on Oct. 25 (2 p.m.) at Cristy Freese Field. The RedHawks are 7-6, 4-1 MAC.
