Lacrosse drops Sunday affair at No. 7 Notre Dame

Chippewas overpowered by national contender in first of three road battles against IWLCA preseason ranked teams in 2024
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Central Michigan Lacrosse fell, 22-3, at No. 7 Notre Dame in the Luftus Indoor Center Sunday afternoon.

Reagan Martinsen (Long Beach, N.Y. / Long Beach) snagged her first goal of the season to break up the Notre Dame shutout early in the third. Sadie Hinkle (Medina, Ohio / Medina) punched in her second of the year, 34th of her career, just three minutes after assisting Martinsen's strike.

Gianna Leontini (McKinney, Texas / Boyd) finished the game with a high note, scoring her first career goal in her first appearance as a Chippewa. Kelsey Barratt (Voorhess, N.J. / Eastern) notched her first career assist.

Alexa Martel (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Olympia) pinned the high-power Notre Dame attack to just four goals for the first quarter, racking up seven of her eight saves in her three quarters between the post.

The Chippewas faced a Fighting Irish team that returned over 90 percent of its offensive production from the 2023 campaign, which showed through in a 33-5 shot disparity in the first half.

Central Michigan Lacrosse continues its season-opening road slate Saturday at Vanderbilt. The 2024 home season opens Feb. 25 with Canisius, followed by a visit from Colorado (Feb. 29).
