Five-Game Men's Basketball Win Streak Ends With 68-47 Loss at Akron

Central Michigan’s five-game win streak comes to an end; Aidan Rubio and Jemal Davis scored 12 and 11 points off the bench, respectively.
AKRON, Ohio—Enrique Freeman and Greg Tribble both scored 17 points as hot shooting Akron jumped out to a sizable first half lead and held off Central Michigan the rest of the way for a 68-47 MAC win over Central Michigan Tuesday evening at the James A. Rhodes Arena. The game featured a matchup of the MAC's No. 1 team in standings in Akron versus Central Michigan, which entered tied for No. 2 in the standings.
With the decision, Akron improved to 10-1 in the MAC and 18-5 overall, while Central Michigan dropped to 8-3 in the MAC and 13-10 overall. Central Michigan hits the road this weekend when it travels to Norfolk, Va. to take on Old Dominion in the MAC-SBC Challenge. Tipoff for that game is at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
With the loss, Central Michigan's five-game win streak ended. The Chippewas have now won eight of their last 10 games. The last time CMU won at Akron was in 2003.
Central Michigan managed just 47 points on the evening, its second lowest offensive output of the year. The Chippewas shot just 30.8 percent from the floor (16-52) and 16.0 percent (4-25 from 3-point range. The 30.8 percent shooting also represented CMU's second lowest shooting output of the year.
Aidan Rubio and Jemal Davis both came off the bench to reach double figure scoring. Rubio finished with 12 points on 3-6 3-point shooting, while Davis added 11 points. After missing the last game, Anthony Pritchard started the contest. Center Markus Harding missed his second straight game.
Freeman and Tribble both scored a game-high 17 points for Akron, while Tavari Johnson added 10 points. Freeman, leading the nation in double-doubles, registered another one with 17 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. The Zips outrebounded CMU 50-31

Enrique Freeman led off with a layup, followed with a 3-pointer, Kaleb Thornton hit a 3-pointer, then Tavari Johnson scored on a layup and hit a 3-pointer of his own for the 13-0 lead.
With an 8-0 run, Akron extended its lead by as many as 24 points (35-11) with 3:47 to play in the first half. But the Chippewas outscored hosts 9-0 over the last 3:47 of the first half and trailed by 15 points at halftime. Aidan Rubio got CMU started with a 3-pointer, Paul McMillan IV converted two free throws, Brian Taylor hit a jumper, and McMillan followed with two free throws.
When the first half ended, Central Michigan had shot just 28 percent (7-25) from the floor and 9.1 percent (1-1) from 3-point range. The Zips outrebounded CMU 24-15.
