Phillips shot a career-low 69 to aid CMU in its best and final round on Tuesday.
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Central Michigan Men's Golf concluded the Seattle U. RedHawk Invitational on Tuesday, having shot a well-improved 290 in the final round at the Chambers Bay Golf Course.
The Chippewas finished tied for 16th with British Columbia with a tournament total of 886 (+34). CMU shot 301 and 295, respectively, on Monday.
"In our conversations (with the team yesterday) I think I allowed the guys to see where they could improve not only as individuals but as a unit," said Head Coach Kevin Jennings. "I felt confident that they were able to go out today and do that, and they did improve some, but yet still, we're in a growing and learning process within the program.
"We're seeing progress. Every journey is made one step at a time and we're making steps toward where we want to go and be."
Easton Phillips highlighted the Chippewas' improvements with a career low round, carding a 2-under 69 on Tuesday. The sophomore finished tied for 60th (+9), having shot 82 and 71 on Monday.
"Easton, like the rest of the guys, I have full confidence in," said Jennings of the sophomore. "He's been working through an adjustment to his equipment and made changes with his swing, he's been working very hard ... and we're beginning to see some of that."
Arie Jackman and Philippe Yturralde both finished tied for 47th. Jackman shot 74 on Tuesday, combined with Monday's 75 and 70 for 219 (+6). Yturralde carded 72 on Tuesday, having shot 71 and 76 on Monday.
Orlando Coons and Jeffrey Andrus shot 75 and 76 in round three, respectively. Coons finished tied for 78th and Andrus was 101st.
CMU has one regular season contest left before heading to the Mid-American Conference Championship on April 26 in Westfield, Ind.
The Chippewas will take on the Mountaineer Invitational, hosted by West Virginia, on Monday, April 15 and Tuesday, April 16 at the Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.V.
"We're looking to review and assess what we do well and what we can improve upon," said Jennings in relation to the final two outings of the season. "We want to continue to make those adjustments so we can continue to elevate in the right direction."
