Pair of home runs not enough as Baseball loses 17-2 at UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. – A red hot Central Florida offense delivered 12 runs across three innings on Saturday as UCF defeated Central Michigan 17-2 at John Euliano Park.
Â
The Chippewas, who registered a complete game shutout on Friday against the Knights, did not find the same success on the bump. Starter Trey Miller (1-4) surrendered eight runs - four of which were earned - and seven hits across 3 2/3 innings.
Â
All four unearned runs scored by the Knights in the bottom of the fourth inning were due to a throwing error with no outs. UCF immediately followed the error with a pair of singles, each bringing in runs. Another three runs were plated by the Knights before CMU escaped the inning down 8-2.
Â
The Chippewas' two runs both came via home runs in the top of the third. Outfielder Jake Brill took a one-out offering deep to left field to put CMU on the board. Later, Danny Wuestenfeld delivered a long ball of his own, this one to right field to cap off the offensive attack.
Â
Through three innings, UCF clung to just a one-run lead. However, across innings four through seven, the Knights tallied 14 runs to maintain control of the contest.
Â
Also pitching for CMU were Jared Hanson, Jonah Milchuk, Quin Konuszewski and Jack Bach. Of these relief arms, Bach was the only one to escape without giving up any runs as he tossed the final 1 2/3 innings.
Â
Brill led the offense with two hits on the day. Also getting in on the action were Wuestenfeld, Ely Stuart, Carter Campau and Marquis Jackson with a knock each.
Â
The Chippewas will look to head home with a series win as the two teams match up for the rubber match on Sunday (Apr. 21) at 12 p.m. ET.
