
Chippewas Wrap Up GVSU, Ohio State Classics

4x400 squad takes 3rd at Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus
ALLENDALE, Mich. / COLUMBUS, Ohio — Central Michigan Track and Field wrapped up Ohio State's Jesse Owens Classic and Grand Valley State's Al Owens Classic on Saturday.
Victoria Merrick competed in the open hammer throw and javelin events at GVSU, winning the hammer throw with a mark of 44.04. She finished 12th in the javelin, her first time competing in the event at a collegiate meet.
The 4x400 relay team of Payton Sabourin, Peyton Korytkowski, Nicole Olivieri and Emma Fountain brought home third place at Ohio State, the Chippewas' best time this season.
Korytkowski qualified for the 400m hurdles finals, finishing 6th in the preliminaries and 5th later in the day.
Fountain and Olivieri were 22nd and 30th in the 400m, respectively.
Anya Turner led the Chippewas in the 800m, finishing 5th. Behind her were Natalie Newcombe, Jessie Gibbins, Libby Munderloh, Maija Rettelle and Chesney Wilke.
Emma Netzel finished 7th in the 3000m steeple, a personal best in her second collegiate steeplechase.
The Chippewas are schedule for another dual-meet weekend on next week, returning to GVSU for the GVSU Extra Weekend for a Saturday-only meet and to Louisville for the Clark Wood Open on Friday and Saturday.
